PA:So tell the public a little about yourself, starting with your age, where you are originally from and what your life was like before you became a model?
VG:Well my name is Vinny Graham, 22 years old from Syracuse NY.. Something that most people don’t know is that before modeling was ever in the picture, athletics were a very big part of my life. Growing up I was always involved with sports.. I ran track, and played both basketball and football. Throughout my high-school years, my talents for football really surfaced and I was offered an athletic scholarship to Gannon University my senior year. During my first year there, I had issues with my knee due to a prior injury from high school, which forced me to give up sports altogether.. After coming to terms that I could no longer play, I returned home and transferred to Syracuse University where I fell into modeling; doing shows on campus and gaining exposure in front of the camera as well.
PA:Was modeling always your career aspiration or was there something else you were interested in first?
VG:Like I said before, modeling wasn’t always something that I saw myself doing.. Prior to going to Syracuse University, I had no experience whatsoever with any type of modeling.. I played football my entire life and that’s really what I had invested most of my time and energy into. Modeling was brought up by my peers, but I never really took it very seriously..
PA:When you are going for a casting, or on a photo shoot what drives you to be able to focus on giving your best?
VG:When I go to different shoots I always think about the theme first (if there is one at all).. Usually if there is one, I try my best to capture it as best as I can.. I try to release all the tension that I may have, and just give the photographer what they want.. If there is no theme, I run through certain sets of poses/looks that work best for me.. If I’m on a casting call or go-see.. I usually practice my walk days in advance just to make sure I’m fully ready.. I also prepare my portfolio and update my resume to make sure that it is accurate and updated for the casting agent..
PA:What's it like working for Wilhelmina it's one of the most prominent agencies there is, and what all designers have you worked for including campaigns...
VG:So far working for Wilhelmina has been great. I’ve only been signed for a few months and I’m really just adjusting to the industry. Being that I’m a new model, I have yet to do much work with Wilhelmina, so things such as campaigns and shows are yet to come. I do however have my website portfolio coming soon where I will show my versatility with several different looks and styles, so be on the lookout for that.. I will also note various designers that I’m modeling when I do shoots and shows in the near future.
PA:What would you say has been your best life experience?
VG:My best life experience was actually a realization for me. I had to come to terms with accepting the fact that one door was closing (football), yet other doors were still open for me. This made me mentally stronger and more focused to pursue other things. I strongly believe that God leads you in certain directions and sometimes the path that you want to take might not necessarily be the path that God has planned for you. Without me getting hurt and coming to S.U., I most likely would have never gotten into modeling at all, so I’m fortunate for all that I’ve been through that has gotten me to where I am now.
PA:What kind of music are you into?
VG:I have respect for all music and all genres, but I’m personally into R&B/Hip-Hop; my favorite artists being Jay-Z and Usher. I also do songwriting/producing as well, so music is something that I’m very passionate about.
PA:Name five things you can't live without?
VG:Five things I can’t live without would have to be God, my family, love from supporters, hate from doubters, and music!
PA:What's your five year plan are you looking to do other forms of artistry?
VG:My five year plan consists of making male modeling more prominent in today’s society.. I feel like due to the fact that modeling is far more competitive for women, male modeling has kinda fell back and shadowed women’s modeling for years. I would like to aid in reviving male modeling and bring it more to the forefront; while also representing the very few African American models that are in the industry today. I also plan on taking acting classes down the road (Most likely w/ Wilhelmina) and getting into television/film as well. I don’t want to limit myself to JUST modeling, so after I feel that I have accomplished everything that I want within the modeling industry, I definitely see myself branching off into other areas such as acting, songwriting and producing.
PA:What is your personal style like, if you were to take us on a tour of your wardrobe?
VG:I would definitely describe my style as very business/casual. When I get dressed to go out I usually wear casual shoes and button downs. I personally love Levi slim straight jeans; and I have countless v-neck tee’s that I wear daily. A lot of the clothing that I own is black, being that it’s one of my favorite colors.. I’d definitely describe my style as very basic, simple and plain.. I don’t try to do too much..
PA:Last but not least what's your favorite way to spend your free time?
VG:Probably working out.. I try to workout as much as possible; so most of my free time goes into the gym.. And like I said before, I do some songwriting/producing; so that’s also a hobby of mine..
