What I like about Atlanta is that it really is the new south, you can't define the city solely based on the region it's located in. You can take that a step further even looking at the different zones located within the metropolitan area, which helps shape the culture as well would have a significant influence on the artists located there. Today we meet Q.Dunn a 25 year old Atlanta native, with a sound that puts you in the mind of Bun B , half of the southern rap duo UGK. You can hear the influence specifically when you listen to his song "Proper Etiquette", a sound from Houston that is miles away from the "Allentemple Houses", that Dunn originated from located near"Cascade"skating rink.
In this southwest Atlanta neighborhood where Dunn spent some of his formative years, he recalls a heartwarming experience where he played with lots of other kids, his family was well-known, and where his grandmother still owns her home. As with most youth, when he got a little older a rebellious phase kicked in once they relocated further from the city, and he got himself into a little trouble. The trouble didn't last long though, because when Dunn became junior high aged, he began focusing more on writing music and rapping.
The musical focus became more of a serious thing for him during 2012-2013 after leaving college, with him initially just wanting to be famous, but not being sure of what he wanted to be famous for, a friend of his would soon start sending him beats after reading a poem that he wrote. In between his work hours he would write, admitting to being no good at first because of his bad delivery, his skills improved after writing over a track by his favorite artist J.Cole. The track was about his real-life which evoked emotions, emotions that prompted him to take a few months off from the studio that would make everything like magic from then on. Dunn credits a lot of his timeless musical achievement to his dearly departed and protective older brother, may his soul rest in eternal peace. Here are some of the direct topics from our interview this past weekend that I'm just now getting to because I have been running around like crazy this week below, also checkout his music on q.dunnmusic.com......
Who influences you most musically and why.....
Old school Kanye, Lil Wayne, Jay-z for his business mind, swagger, and because he runs himself like a boss. 50 cent get rich or die trying, Juvenile & The hot boys we used to remix the songs with my moms recorder that she used during nursing school, and record songs on it. T.I. influenced me because my brother was a fan, and my barber used to cut T.I. hair, my barber even called T.I. and let me speak to him, most of the things that I like is because of what my brother liked.
Now I see that you write music as well, do you only write
for yourself or have you written things for others as well....
I've written songs for girls mostly, and only would write for guys if there was lots of money involved because as a rapper you should be writing about your real life. Writing should progress because most people's problems aren’t on the outside they are on the inside, I will use Kid Cudi for example because he talks about feelings in his music.
Have you gotten a chance to work with a lot of the heavy
hitters in Atl yet, and if so who, also who would you like to work with moving
forward in your career......
I've worked with"Light Skin Keisha", l was the Iead guy in her video. I want to point out that I act and models as well, moving forward I would like to work with Migos, J.Cole, or Guccimane.

I agree that the music industry doesn’t require talent, nothing separates people, it's more about the sound than the message, its based a lot on popularity.
Tell us about the current projects you have out and where we
can listen too them.....
"Q.Dunn" on soundcloud, "DunnTalking" is the project he has out now. I'm working on a music video for the song called “Trial”, I had a music video out, but I took it down because I don’t want to be portrayed that way anymore. I really just want better for my people and my family, I want to be the one to make a difference. I feel like I am chosen as much bullshit comes my way, like my pastor said a thief isn’t going to rob an empty house.
