In this industry vibes for me are how I create a written concept for the readers to accompany visuals for interactions I have with people in the industry. I had almost given up on Reek I told him, I've actually been following his career for awhile back when he was flowing over previously released industry tracks. So last night I'm trying to get my body adjusted to going to bed at a different time for my work schedule, and I get this call from PA, so I'm looking at my phone like who is this calling me this late, I almost didn't answer because I was trying to sleep. I answer the call and it's Reek, so I get up after us going back and forth due to schedule conflicts, head to the computer and I'm taking down everything he say's as quickly as I can. Before I even get into that I have to let you know he is the coolest person, for that reason alone is the reason you need to go online and purchase his new EP. In this world we have hidden gems which we call "The Hood", I find that you will meet some of the most loving, caring, and protective people from those areas. Reek represents a host of artist from Philly such as Meek Mill, Freeway, Beanie Sigel(aka Beans), Freeway, Cassidy, Eve, Peedi Crack, Oschino Sparks, Major Figgas, and Chic Rawls. I mean y'all scene 'State Property", I wanted to be those dudes when I was younger, but Reek really comes from there a place where it seems hip-hop has forgotten. I'm taking you to Southwest Philly to meet hip-hop recording artist/model ''Reek I'van", dubbed "The Hood Activist", music was his way out in order to be able to accurately represent that title for a person who is actually giving back to the community who raised him. As an artist he has ventured into pop, and is open to anything that helps him grow musically, he vibes well with singers which makes it easy for his lyrics to be translated into songs. Last year he worked with ''Grammy Award", winning singer/songwriter currently signed to ''Capital Records" Guordan Banks that penned the song ''Keep You In Mind", for ''HBO'S" hit tv show "Insecure". However this is nothing new to him, having been blessed to be around some of our music industries brightest stars, Reek began his writing career years ago in Atlanta. It was in a writing camp for Jermaine Dupri and B.Cox(Brian Michael Cox for those who maybe unfamiliar), where he looks up to see Usher walking into the room. Fast-forward to a time in Queens NY, that he gets a call for the Jay'z, Dj Khaled, Future video "I Got the Keys". He recently dropped his new EP titled "Book of Tabias" which is what we talked about last night, it started with him just googling his name, stumbling across the "Book of Tobit", this captivated him prompting the incorporation of the title into his own name. The loosely translated self-titled EP hosts 17 tracks, which was produced in L.A. and Philly with a gang of producers from "Bone Collector" who hails from Paris all the way to "OZ Heckler" of Philly. I'van describes his creative process as preferring to be relaxed in the clouds of blue dreams, while listening to Sade prior to any session, the songs are then developed and created on the spot with vibes he gets from the producer. He describes his abilities to that of a Draco with a hundred rounds, being able to just go on any beat. Reek also has a growing entertainment company called "London Boy ENT", which stands for Loyalty or Nothing, Dedication or Nothing, he credits London in particular for taking interest in his brand from the start.
It's not all about Hollywood with Tabias, there is more to his life than just music and fashion. He maybe armed with talent and impeccable style, which he draws inspiration from Paris as well as "Creative Director" Shawny Ocho, but it's bigger than that. He is a father first, which is something that detaches him from the fashion campaigns, the amazing musical endeavors, who I must reiterate is a hood humanitarian for the greater good of our culture's future, that looks forward to building football stadiums, basketball courts, and dirt bike trails in Philly. Reek is definitely raising the standard leading the people out of darkness, he describes growing up in Southwest Philly as a bitter sweet experience in which his wins and losses were equally balanced. In my humble opinion these are great qualities to possess for achieving greatness not only in this industry, but in this world, accompanied by faith, determination, and fearlessness. Along with God, family, food, his phone, and his freedom I'van has it all. Before I go I had to show my silly side, and because he is in Hollywood, I had to ask him, would he do a track with "LoveNHip-Hop Hollywood's" Hazel E, his response was if she could keep up, and that he would write for her though.
