In between observing the latest creations from the cream of the haute couture world, Anna Wintour found time to pop into the Élysée Palace yesterday to collect her Legion of Honor medal.The multi-tasking British-born, New York-based editor wore a Chanel haute couture skirt-suit (which had its debut on the catwalk only the night before) to meet French president Nicolas Sarkozy, who was fresh from a Mediterranean break with his pregnant wife and former model, Carla Bruni. Anna Wintour talks to The Telegraph,she was awarded a Chevalier (Knight) of the Order, which was established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 and signifies the highest order of decoration in France. The honor is the equivalent to the Queen's Honours, which the 61-year-old 'scooped' back in 2008 when she mas made an OBE.
Other big fashion names to have been awarded the Légion d'honneur include Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Valentino and Nicole Farhi.
Wintour whose late father Charles was a one-time editor of the London Evening Standard , has been at the helm of US Vogue since 1988 and is arguably one of the the most influential figureheads in the fashion industry. Her no-nonsense attitude and drive for perfection have earned her the nickname 'Nuclear Wintour'.
