In this world everything is not always as it seems, and we often don't get to see beyond the surface to know who is really there for you. I feel that my eyes and mind have now been given more depth after speaking with R&B artist Range AKA Chuck Adams he gave me more than an interview, but an actual insight into life in the entertainment industry. Chuck was previously on the rooster of new comers to Roc Nation along with J-Cole and Melanie Fiona, he dropped his first single on the label entitled "Ghetto Dance" ft. Rick Ross. Chuck describes this experience as a one in a million chance that an artist gets to release a major single signed to a major label, he even stated that while on the video set of "Ghetto Dance" Rick Ross pointed out the fact that having Ray Kay a highly sought after video director for his first video was a big deal. In speaking about his previous situation with RocNation he attributes part of it to being a lack of guidance, and him just being a loner and not getting caught up in the hype.
This was something he said hurt him because it shut him off from making the connections that he could've, but it also led him to believe that all the people who were around him were true friends leaving him to find that wasn't so once all of the hype was gone. Chuck feels like this helped him become a better businessman who is the Range side of him which is more rigid, where you have Chuck Adams his real name as the more personable welcoming guy.Right now Chuck is on the verge of releasing a new album and based on his singles Bitter which came out in February along with the video shot in NYC which is totally dope, DYME(Do You Miss Me), and To Good to Be which happens to be my favorite I know his new project is going to bring the heat.Chuck describes his new project as being more personal because it's his story, he isn't in the studio just making club bangers and dance tracks but he is inviting you into his life, revealing raw emotions and songs that helped him maintain his sanity when he was in a very dark place in his life. Although while watching the lyric video accompanied by the song To Good To Be it makes you think of a g-rated movie,
Chuck explains the meaning as being more dark with its lyrical content like when you know you are losing the love of your life although it's not be said you can just feel it. I think we've all been there but most of us don't have the platform or talent he has to display it in order to move on, I told him that his sound puts me in the mind of Frank Ocean because his music tends to move you. All of the writing and production on his new project is handled by him, he was able to give me the names of two features on his album which are Wale of Rick Ross Maybach Music Group who he is still close with, and rapper Ian Matthews under Chuck's personal label American Money Machine.
We discussed titles and he is still playing around with them, but the one he keeps leaning towards is Range is Chuck Adams because he wants people to get used to hearing that name. The Album will consists of 9 tracks and maybe one more feature as Chuck stated he is not a big fan of features, he will be shooting the video to his new single Want You Back next week in NY. I wanted to give you all a little insight to music lingo so I asked Chuck to describe the difference between an Ep and an Lp he said" an Ep extended play is shorter than the actual album, Lp is the actual album which in the old days would be 20minutes on each side. Adams wants it to be known that this album will be closure to the dark chapter in his life but it doesn't necessarily mean he will be making happier music. Chuck will also be doing some promo for his album at some New York venues so be on the lookout. I just want everyone to know what an amazing talented and nice guy Chuck is and that is more than enough reason to support his music.
