What I love most about conversations is that you get a chance to feel people out, their tone of voice, the inflections all of those things mean a lot as an expression of verbal communication. I only wish you guys got a chance to experience the exchange of dialogue between us, because it helps put more emotion and understanding into the words. The 26 year old Miami native has been in the modeling game for about 8 years now, I caught up with him while he was getting ready to hop in the barber's chair. Although he was in Miami during the recent devastation of "Hurricane Irma", his primary residence is now New York, where he relocated to delve more into the fashion and entertainment industry. We chatted briefly on how the hurricane affected him, and although he was a bit nerve wrecked he was worried more about others." I lost power for a couple days, but it destroyed how the city normally works, you can’t even go on the beach now unless you have ID or are working down there." With his amazing physique it should be of no surprise that Q for those who know him, has an athletic background in both football and track.
Now I workout, but you put me to shame on my best day, how
often are you in the gym, and do you follow a specific diet or are you able to
just eat whatever you want...
Well I am a fitness enthusiast, the gym is not really my place I prefer to use whatever is
around me to train with. I also
find being in shape sexy, as far as diet goes I went vegan to consume maximum amounts of food but
also to keep a moderate look to my body, my motto for fitness is” don’t change the
scenario, change the outcome”. I would also like to point out good smells like cologne boost up your endorphins when working out.
With your physique are you more of a fitness model, fashion,
or both.......
I'm a guy who is able to cross into both spectrums, the focus is always fitness
forward, fitness is my art I live fitness, the thing about fitness that appeals so much to me is the fact that its universal, in other countries
the body is just the body it doesn’t have the stigma that we put on it here in
the US
What agencies are you signed to, and what major designers
have you worked for thus far, and moving forward who would you like to work
with.....
I'm currently signed to Silver models under BMG, it's the only fitness agency in the tri-state area and
partially the US, we have an affiliate in Miami but
we are based in NY. I want to touch on something that a lot of models don't know, once you reach a certain level of success you don’t need an
agency they pay you to sign to them. As far as major campaigns I have booked "Reebok Classic" that's where that picture is from you used on IG, moving forward I would love work with Kanye,
Armani Exchange, Yoshi Yamamoto creator of Y-3, nike, on the fashion side it would be
Gucci.
If you weren't modeling what could you see yourself doing,
do you see yourself crossing over into acting, any hidden talents....
Designing(interior),manufacturing
products, architecture. I'm currently working on a bio-pic which is a documentary, I would love to get into more of the performance romance, dating romance genres of acting though. I wouldn't say I have any hidden talents, but I have a very
selective personality.
Aside from being a model what does the Quinten Barnard brand
represent.....
I'm always a trainer first, I like helping people, doing community work, and did I mention I
love people.
You may not know this but Urban Insider started off under a
different name, as just a style tutorial for young men, you keep yourself
pretty well-groomed, what advice do you have for any young men out there not
knowing which direction to go in to start that process....
Stick with one-look,
keep your hair groomed, great lotion(Cure), good cologne(Tom Ford Tobacco, Lucky
You) to make an impression or (Ferrari Sport like for working out). I like a well-tailored
suit, and when you sit, unbutton your suit to let it breathe for elegance, having a
good formal outfit or two is always key, basically always stay ready for any occasion.
What have been the best and worst things you have
encountered in this industry.....
I have been very fortunate not to experience the bad things this industry has to offer,
I do did a fitness reality show called “The 20’s”, the premise of the show was trying find the person who has
that it factor. I didn’t win, but it made me understand the value of who I am, I'm currently in the
process of doing another TV-show and will know results by October.
Would you call yourself a fashion guy outside of modeling,
and if so what brands are you rocking.....
Yes,I like european cuts they fit better on your body, Dolce&Gabbana, a classic
pair of jeans. If I find something in Zara I will rock it, I also like the cut of
Robin Jeans, BBC,G-Star Raw, Ed hardy, and Bape.
Who are your favorite artists to listen to when you are just
on Quinten time.....
I listen to Daniel Caesar who is a Canadian R&B artist, Kanye, and Pharrell.
Aside from the things that I have covered here, what would
you like the readers to take away from this interview with you today.....
Pictures
are a form a acting, it’s a character, it may appear that I'm really into self but it’s not that at all.
Philanthropy should be the only work that will last because it’s in-tune with
helping others and people should learn how to do that, obtain knowledge before money,
that’s the real money
