I recently had the pleasure of chopping it up a member of very diverse dance group Vogue Evolution from Mtv's ABDC. I honestly thought the group was DOPE they got out there and they repped hard and didn't care what bias people may have against them. When about their experience on the show this was the response"It was amazing!!!!!When we came on the show, we wanted to let the world know how important the LGBTQ community is, our subculture “ Ballroom” that we represent and also showing everyone how Voguing had educated pop culture since before Madonna, but it was deeper then that. We also learned more about who we are as people and the leadership skills we had in us that we never knew". It seems like they had growth from that experience from his response and that's something we all should take away from every experience we embark on.
Vogue Evolution On Preperation for their major event
"We went through a lot, it was difficult to get everyone at rehearsal. There was a lot of arguing, tears and long nights. I personally think it was because the dream of an openly gay group with a Trans seemed so far fetched that we battled our inner beliefs with past outer past experiences. It was a very difficult process, but we made it through and grew as family."
Major Projects Since ABDC
"We have been to many colleges performing, doing vogue classes and workshops, and also questions and answers. We have performed with Sahara Davenport from Ru Pauls Drag Race in Texas and also performed with Britney Houston now known as Mila Jam in Kansas. Canada also gave us our own Gay Pride Day where we came and performed at a concert dedicated to us with a tribute from other dance teams out there. We have been Dancing everywhere and doing everything. We are truly still blessed." Keep putting your heart and soul into everything you do ,and nothing but blessings will come to you.
Age Range of the Group
"Well we are all in our 20’s, but if you ask Malechi, he would say he is 18 for the next 18 years. Malechi and myself have been best friends since I was 13. The rest of us have been battling in the Ballroom scene for all 5 to 13 years. So we grown to love one another and respect each other though the years and competitions that past."
Working With Heavy hitters in the industry like Mariah, Ashanti, Lil Mo, Missy, Nichole Ray, and some other artist. Leiomy has recently worked with Willow Smith these guys won't be faces that will be easily forgotten.
What makes them from other Choreographers
"Well not only are we all Vogue Legends but also contribute different element of dance to our unique style. We are courageous enough to be sexy and feminine, and dominant enough to give an aggressive twitch and masculine switch. "
In response to my question on the music he is currently feeling"Actually I am listening to classical music right now. It calms me down. I’m naturally a hyper active personally"
Pony Zion describes his Personal Style
"My personal style? hmmm.. I don’t know. Right now I am into the entire winter thing going on. Big winter scarf, long sharp coats, high boots, and a sick Balenciaga Frame." Ight the high boots a lil bit of the Chris Brown Swag going on which is very European and DOPE!!!!!!
Best Place to chill in your City
"HOME! lol. For anyone else, I honestly wouldn’t know. I don’t like enough of the club life now days in New York to invite someone out. I would feel bad if it sucked and they didn’t have fun. I like Club Pacha personally though…" I feel you on that there is no place like home especially living up north in the winter time.
