Gee Roberson New Chairman of Geffen Records




Interscope head, Jimmy Iovine, reportedly named Gee Roberson, longtime hip-hop manager and co-founder of Hip-Hop Since 1978, chairman of Geffen Records this week.Roberson is the longtime manager of such acts as Kanye West, Drake, Lil Wayne, and several others.According to Billboard.biz, he will head a revitalized and restaffed Geffen Records, which would be located on the East Coast.

Roberson will also be in charge of the creative direction and operations of the label, while focusing on bringing in and establishing new talent.“Gee has a unique combination of talents that the music industry really needs running a record company today,” said Iovine in a statement, originally founded in 1980 by David Geffen before merging with Interscope Records in 1990, signed Philadelphia hip-hop band, The Root,s to its first record deal. Their roster throughout the years has also included GZA, Large Professor, Omar Cruz, Snoop Dogg, and Mos Def, among others.

Roberson founded the management company, Hip-Hop Since 1978, with Kyambo “Hip-Hop” Joshua. They began as A&R’s at Jay-Z’s Roc-a-Fella Records, but eventually moved on. Roberson then headed to Atlantic Records, where he held the position of Senior VP of A&R.
