We saw the cover for GQ yesterday, and now the magazine is on stands and the entire article is out, where "Watch The Throne", Jay-Z's future as a father and more are discussed.
Check out some highlights from it below.
On His Father:
So now Jay's going to be a father, and he's thinking about his own father. He's thinking about his roots in a nonmythological way, what he's carried with him from Marcy to here, what he's escaped. What's relevant about Adnis Reeves, Jay's dad, is not so much that he left when Jay was 11 but that he was present up until that time, long enough that when he left, it was worse than not having a father at all.
"If your dad died before you were born, yeah, it hurts—but it's not like you had a connection with something that was real," Jay says. "Not to say it's any better—but to have that connection and then have it ripped away was, like, the worst. My dad was such a good dad that when he left, he left a huge scar. He was my superhero."
"He was gone," Jay says. "He was not himself." Jay's mother, Gloria Carter, tried to push him to see his son; there were meetings scheduled that Reeves didn't show up for. They didn't see each other again until 2003.
"[I talked about] what it did to me, what it meant, asked him why. There was no real answer. There was nothing he could say, because there's no excuse for that. There really isn't. So there was nothing he could say to satisfy me, except to hear me out. And it was up to me to forgive and let it go."
On Himself Being a Father:
"Providing—that's not love," he says. "Being there—that's more important. I mean, we see that. We see that with all these rich socialites. They're crying out for attention; they're hurting for love. I'm not being judgmental—I'm just making an observation. They're crying out for the love that maybe they didn't get at home, and they got everything. All the material things that they need and want. So we know that's not the key."
So will the God MC be changing diapers?
"Of course, of course. One hundred percent."
And will we see you putting the car seat in the Maybach?
"Yeah," Jay smiles. "Wouldn't that be great? That would be a great picture."
Jennifer Hudson snagged the December/January issue of Ebony magazine, and the songstress looks absolutely amazing. In the magazine, Jennifer talks about her relationship with fiancée David Otunga, her little boy, David Jr., losing weight, and the tragic shooting that changed her life forever.
During the interview, Jennifer tells Ebony that the only reason she survived the shooting that claimed the lives of her mother, brother, and nephew, was because she was on her way to see her fiancée. She remembers, “I flew out to see him; that’s why I’m still here. I’ve never said that before and I can’t believe I just said that now.”
In the cover story, J-Hud also discusses her weight. Since her dramatic weight loss, Hudson has received both praise and criticism for her new body. Some fans have used Jennifer’s weight loss as inspiration to change their own lives, while others have wondered if she’s gotten too thin. Earlier this year, the View’s Joy Behar claimed Jennifer told her she was a size zero, but the singer tells Ebony it that never happened.
I am going to finally address that size-zero thing that Joy [Behar] said on The View. Hell I wasn’t even on the show. I never said I was a size zero. I got crucified by I don’t know how many people who cussed me out because they said I’m putting out the wrong message and telling people to be a size zero. I got called every name under the sun and was told, ‘You should be ashamed of yourself for talking about being that size.’ Well, honey, when I do say I’m that size, then give me that speech. I never said that.
