Life&Hip-Pop recently had a chance to catch up with fashion designer William Boston one of the most sought after in the Hip-Hop community for his very innovative hand made pieces. Generating a huge buzz around the country right now with his walking canvas's hear how he gets it done...
LHP-Start by giving your background info on your life such as your birth name, age, and where you are from?
WB- Birth name is William Boston and yes that’s my real name, lol…people ask that all the time, currently 28 and born in Miami, fl
LHP-Education: Graduated from homestead senior high in Miami fl, and attended college at Edward Water College in Jacksonville,fl studying business management
LHP-Have your past jobs prepared you for your current position? And just experiences in life period..... I would have to say yes, because they made me into a people person, when I used to be really shy…I know some people might not believe the shy part, lol…but I was.
LHP-Let's talk about motivation and inspiration what made you decide break into the fashion industry, would you say it's something that has always been an interest of yours?
Q-45 from Rapcity's The Basement
WB-Yeah, I think it was always in me, because I was always into being fly…because the fly dudes always got the chicks…never wanted to look like the bummy dude with no chicks, so I think this fashion thing was instilled in me at a young age. I just carried on with it, and transformed my style of fashion into a clothing line.
LHP- Now you describe it as hand painted couture can you give a little more insight into the process of how that's done, and does it involve more than you just working on the design? Are you very hands on with picking fabrics and things of that nature...
WB- I’m very hands on with every item, hints the words “Hand Painted”…each piece we create is an original form of art work, We turn every item into a wearable canvas, we have machinery that can reproduce clothing as any other line would, but the core of the line derives from the hand painted part.
LHP-Tell the readers where they can buy your line and describe the type of clientele you want to appeal to, as well specifics on of models you are dealing with, are you tailored more towards high-end, urban, or commercial.
WB-I never got into this business just targeting on genre or group of people, this clothing line is an expression of art that can be appreciated by any social group….from the youngest to the oldest, I just want to be able to touch as many people, races, and genres as possible. As far the models, I’m willing to work with any and all, I understand their hungry and they understand mines, so I never turn down the opportunity to work with any model, because I’m all about networking. Networking can take your business to places you’ve never imagined. LHP-What would you say are some of the things you don't like about being in the fashion industry, if there in fact is anything at all to dislike?
WB-There are pros and cons to everything in life, nothing is going to be perfect and all peaches and cream…so I try my best to never complain, I know where I want to go, and I just strive hard at trying to get there.
LHP-In terms of marketing yourself in the entertainment industry, what business ventures do you want to partake in, and do you want to branch off into other areas?
WB- Most definitely want to branch off into other areas, I’m very interested in acting and lately I’ve been thinking about writing a book, something like a fictional novel or something, not too sure yet, but I’m always looking to re-event myself. I’ve even done some standup comedy, due to the fact that people really think I’m funny and it actually turned out well, but overall I’m interested in branding myself in every way possible.
LHP-What Celebs would you like to see rocking your line?
WB-The first celebs were the Dipset (Juelz Santana, Carmon, Jim Jones, freaky zeeky) and from there the list goes on: Busta Rhymes, Freeway, Flo-rida, Acehood, Yung Joc, Trick daddy, Plies, Big Tigger and many more…I’m just happy to have them support what I do.
LHP-Name some of your strengths?
WB-I’m a work-a-holic
LHP-Name some of your weaknesses?
WB-One of my weaknesses would have to be “comparing”… for some reason I always compare my life to others that have made it…guess I just like to know what they did, so that I can apply the same.
LHP-Things you can't live without?
WB-Can’t live without my phones, even though they both ring a lot, I can’t live without them.
LHP-What's your five year plan?
WB-The next five years is critical, because I’m in expansion mode right now, I’m trying to break into that Atlanta network and LA market, and first step is to open up store in the Atlanta area. Which I have big plans on doing so. But I just have to calculate my steps, and with hard work and prayer, I know I’m bound to make it happen
LHP-Personal style in terms of clothing what are you rocking?
WB- I’m big on hats, from fitteds to the snapbacks, and anybody who know me can tell you I’m just as big on shoes too, I like what Aldo has to offer, I like the Shmacks , adidas , creative recs, man the list goes on, but I’m definitely up on both.
LHP-Best Place to hangout where you are from?
WB-South Beach!!...Hands down, probably the best place in America
