The Varvatos family are originally from the Greek island of Cefalonia, in the small village of Poulata. Born in Detroit and grew up in Allen Park south of the city of Detroit, and attended Allen Park High School. Varvatos joined Polo Ralph Lauren in 1983. He then moved to Calvin Klein in 1990 where he was appointed head of menswear design and oversaw the launch of the men’s collection and the cK brand. In 1995, he returned to Ralph Lauren as Head of Menswear Design for all Polo Ralph Lauren brands and created the successful Polo Jeans Company. If you thought he was just about clothes then you are dead wrong. He is one the only high-end shoe designers that I really patronize other than the small vv detail either on the side or back of his shoes you really aren't being overtly gaudy, but yet rather very contemporary and stylish. His designers vary from Chuck Taylors, Loafers, to boots, but it's a quality brand so the cash you spend on his shoes are well worth it!
